I wanted to be a scientist for a number of different reasons.
I chose to study nano-science in college as it was a really new and interesting area with lots of new discoveries which could help solve some of our global challenges.
I like that the goal of science is to discover new things, and there is a thrill and excitement about being the first person to ever measure something or to develop something completely new, then write about it and share it with other scientists and the world. Hopefully one day I’ll discover something that will make peoples lives better, that’s another of my motivations to be a scientist.
Studying science trains your brain how to be logical and to think clearly and to be a better problem-solver. It also tells you a lot about how things work. It could be the universe or your car or a mobile phone.
I also really enjoy that scientists get to travel around the world to other labs or to conferences to show off their results, and the reason why I still want to be a scientist, is that science is fun!

I didn’t always want to be a scientist. I started university training to be a doctor. After three years I got the opportunity to become a scientist and work in research for a few years which has been very exciting. Everyday I’m asking new questions and trying to solve problems with the cells or the materials I’m working with. Everyday is different and bring new challenges and I would’nt have it any other way.

While I eventually will go back to finish training as doctor and hopefully become a surgeon, I will always be working in research at the same time. I think it is very important to face a new challenge everyday to keep growing and learning!
