When I finished school, I studied medicine for three years in the university in Galway and then I started my PhD in research. I’ve been researching spine disease for the last year and a half.

I come from the countryside in Kilkenny, my dad is an Archaeologist and my mum is an artist and makes sculptures and crafts. I thought I wanted to be an Architect or Engineer, but during transition year I did a week long physics experience in Trinity College and learnt all about nanomaterials. I chose the subjects I needed to do physics and chemistry of advanced materials in Trinity College and after completing that course I did a PhD !

I grew up in a very small town in the middle of Missouri, USA. My mom is a nurse and worked at a nursing home, and my dad was an environmental scientist who worked for the government cleaning up petrol spills. Recently, my dad went back to college and got his Physician Assistant license and now practices medicine with my Grandfather, who is a Medical Doctor. My family is full of medical professionals and many are military as well, I have multiple family members (including my brother) in the US Army and some in the Air Force and Navy. I have a load of cousins and twice a year we all meet up at my grandparent’s house in Kansas to chat about life. I was lucky to have a family who loved traveling and supported me wherever I decided to go!
