      I think there are too many materials in the world to count, lets say we have natural materials and synthetic (human made) materials. For both of these types we are discovering and inventing new materials constantly!

      I don’t know how many materials but there is a list of all the elements that are known. That is the periodic table of elements. If you look that up, you will see a long list. Materials that exist are made up from at least one of these elements.
