The best opportunity I’ve gotten so far has been all of the travel that comes with the job. I was working in a lab in Dublin for a while this year and will be working in Switzerland and Japan next year!

I would agree with Kieran, traveling to other labs and conferences to present your work in front of an audience is definitely a highlight.
I’ve been able to give talks in America, Japan and Europe at big scientific conferences where you learn a huge amount about the other research in your field and meet lots of other scientists. You can end up collaborating on projects with these scientists and working on new and exciting things! They might want you to do some experiments for them, and they might have some equipment that you don’t have!
