When I first saw the 3D printers I thought that at long last, we had something that could really work, something that could make what we really need to make. Until I saw the printers, what we made was limited or restricted by whether we could make the shape by cutting off or machining off pieces from bigger lumps of metal and then we tried to get a better surface for the bone by trying to stick different pieces on – coatings.
I was also nervous because the first printer I saw was melting titanium and the people using it didn’t really understand the dangers and risks in what they were doing – so the first thing we did was make it safe to use.
So excited but careful sums it up
