My job is most challenging when experiments don’t work out the way you planned them or if something goes wrong and I have to start all over again after hours of work. It can be very difficult to stay motivated when things go wrong but there is always a solution and we have to keeping trying until we figure out what works in our experiments.

I agree with Kieran, the job can be very challenging if you hit a rough patch in your research. When that happens, it’s best to focus on the little successes, like changing a protocol to make it better or reading something that may help your next experiment to succeed. Most of the time, the little things can help keep us motivated and optimistic.
