What an interesting and great question!
I think working in a computer repair shop definitely helped! It gave me some excellent investigating and troubleshooting skills which are really important to have in research. When a computer came we would have to test each of the individual parts (Operating system, Random Access Memory (RAM) , Central Processing Unit (CPU), hard drive, power supply to find out which parts were broken so we could replace them.
When one of my nano materials experiments doesn’t work, I need to think about all the places where that experiment could have gone wrong and try and test each of those one-by-one so that next time I can fix the problem in how I’m making my materials and get a good result.

I’ve also had to build and repair quite a few computers in the lab so the knowledge I got in the shop really helped there!
